Soutache Day Class
Learn the basics of making beautiful soutache jewellery in this fun and creative beginners day class.
Soutache, (also referred to as 'Russian Braid') is a predominantly sewing-based technique of building layers of cords in a way that beads can be placed side-by-side. The threads can be curved and shaped into a range of patterns giving a stunning visual effect.
In this class our expert tutor, Sarah Burnett-Moore, will guide you through all the basics and show you how to make glamorous pieces of jewellery.
You will make 4 components - two mirror image, one central and a lollipop, which you will then assemble into jewellery. You can choose to make any one of the following pojects:
A statement necklace
A simple necklace and two earrings
A brooch and two earrings
You will be using two different edging techniques and will also practice joining. You will use a range of flatbacked stones, beads, soutache threads, needle and thread, glue and fabric to make your jewellery - all things that are very easy to source and can be done from home after the class. And what's more, once you have learnt the technique you can use it to make a whole range of jewellery items - so the sky's the limit!
This is a fun and interactive class that is suitable for complete beginners, no previous experience in either jewellery making or sewing is necessary.
