Join the Handmade Revolution...
'Make your own...what greater satisfaction can there be?' Bronwyn Robbins, London
It’s official! Crafting is not just for Nanna anymore.
Independent, savvy folk everywhere are trading in the generic, and mass produced, instead picking up needles, thread and pliers to handcraft everything from funky knitted scarves, sweet cupcakes, handmade jewellery and chic party dresses.
From Channel 4’s Kirstie Allsopp’s home made adventures, to the boom of handmade markets around town and online, you don’t have to look far to see that people of all ages and backgrounds are finding their inner creative and becoming part of the handmade movement sweeping across the U.K.
London’s vibrant and bustling craft and arts scenes offers curious creatives loads of courses, resources and opportunities to get them started.
One little gem we have found is the London Jewellery School located in London’s jewellery quarter of Hatton Garden offering loads of introductory classes in silver jewellery, felt jewellery, beading and button jewellery starting at around £40 including all materials.
The hands on, practical nature of the classes mean you can make a few professional looking pieces in just one sitting and go home with a bag of unique jewellery, handmade by yours truly.
Getting back to basics and learning the traditional craft of handmade jewellery making has offered people not just a creative awakening, but opens new exciting windows of opportunity. London Jewellery School director Jessica Rose has seen many students come through the doors that have gone on to pursue creative careers, join networks and create communities for people to unite by hand made craft, she says “It’s amazing to see our students come in as complete novices and go away confident, inspired and ready to take on the world with their new-found skills”
