Soldering in Metal Clay
Take a look above to see examples of what can be made in this class. These images are of students' and tutors' work.
Please note, this class is not suitable for complete beginners. You will need to have attended our beginners metal clay class (or similar) or be familiar with making and firing your own silver clay pieces at home.
Do you want to advance your silver clay skills but don’t want to attend a silversmithing course? This intermediate class is for anyone who would like to extend their abilities and learn how to solder onto metal clay. You will spend an exciting day learning and practicing new techniques to add findings to your metal clay pieces including stud earrings and cufflink backs. You will also learn how to solder on and shape a wire brooch pin.
Techniques covered in this class include:
- sweat soldering stud earring posts and cufflink backs
- soldering silver wire onto a brooch and shaping a pin
- many more hints and tips including how to make your own pickle
We follow three projects throughout the day, these include:
- Stud earrings with soldered pins
- Cufflinks with soldered cufflink backs
- Brooch with soldered and shaped brooch pin
You will have plenty of soldering practice and by the end of the day you should have the confidence and skill to start making things from home.
All materials are included in the class as well as full class notes.
