Learn the age old technique of lost wax carving - a fascinating way of making silver and gold jewellery by carving jewellery out of wax, then getting a mould of the wax, melting the wax and pouring molten silver or gold in to make a solid silver version of your wax mould. This is a great class for anyone interested in making jewellery.
The course will cover the following:
Week 1 – Beginners Wax Carving (the students have to have completed a piece by end of day so it can be sent to the Casters)
Week 2 – Intermediate Wax Carving (the students will get their Cast piece back and will be shown how to take the sprue off before moving onto making an Intermediate level piece)
In the class, all students will learn to carve and shape the wax into different shapes and design whole pieces of jewellery in wax. Students will be able to make a number of designs throughout the course as well as learning the techniques.
Topics and areas usually covered in this class include:
- Designing for wax caving (Beginners and Intermediate level)
- Qualities and properties of different forms of wax
- Using wax carving tools to achieve your designs
- Making finished wax carved masters ready to cast
- How to cut off sprue and clean up castings
- Full information on how and where to get your wax pieces cast locally and affordably and much more...
PLEASE NOTE: AS THIS IS A TWO-DAY COURSE OVER 2 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS YOU WILL NOT ONLY CREATE PIECES IN WAX, ONE OF YOUR WAX CARVINGS WILL ALSO BE SENT OFF TO BE CAST INTO SILVER AND WILL BE READY IN TIME FOR YOUR SECOND CLASS A WEEK LATER WHERE YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO FINISH OFF YOUR CASTINGS .
The course price includes 1 x casting in silver!
You will leave at the end of the course with at least 1 finished piece of jewellery plus multiple other wax pieces and we will give you full information of places that you can take them to to have them cast into gold or silver.
