The Good, The Great, and the Shiny: What to Expect on the Summer Intensive Silver Diploma!
It's that time of year again, when the summer intensive courses are about to start!
We're delighted to have so many local and international students joining us for our intensive courses this year, but it can be hard to know what to expect from your course, so we thought we'd let you know exactly what happens on the Summer Intensive Diploma courses!
1. EXPECT IT TO BE...INTENSE!
We gave it the name we did for a reason - this is full on training, where you'll spend 7 weeks making, making, and making some more. Not for the faint-hearted, but we've been told time and again by students that seeing the results of pushing themselves has been life-changing, confidence-boosting, and eye-opening.
2. YOU'LL BE SURPRISED AT YOUR OWN BENCH SKILLS
As a result of the fast-paced environment, your skills as a jeweller will improve even quicker than you can imagine, leaving you totally confident in key techniques like stone setting, working to a brief, and designing and creating unique pieces to wear or sell.
3. WE DON'T BELIEVE IN PAPERWORK...AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU!
Jewellery making is about...well, making jewellery. We're a practical, hands-on school, who don't believe in spending tonnes of time on the theory behind making jewellery, but on the making it. You'll spend less than 1% of this course on paperwork, we promise - and any that you do have to do will be actually beneficial for your jewellery career.
4. LOTS OF SILVER
Silver, gemstones, saw blades...whatever you need to make your jewellery, we'll provide you, in the form of a very generous allowance. No hidden fees like some jewellery schools - we'll have everything ready for you so you can just get to the making. We'll also give you all the tips we can about where to buy your materials once the course is over!
5. A BUCKET LOAD OF INSPIRATION
Our tutors are professional jewellers, most of whom run their own jewellery businesses or work in the trade; ask them all the questions you like, because they're here to guide you through...and they're a pretty inspiring bunch!
6. A MAXIMUM OF 8 STUDENTS PER CLASS
Did you know you can learn up to twice of much in a small group than a big one? And that's why our rule is that no class is bigger than 8 students. You'll also get time for 1-2-1s with the tutors, so your learning is always prioritised.
7. MENTORSHIP & GUIDANCE
You'll be assigned a mentor to support your learning throughout the course; they'll mark your work, check-in with you regularly, and be available via email when you need it. Game-changing, right?
8. BUSINESS SKILLS
You'll learn everything you need to get you started with your own jewellery business, including how to work to a brief, finishing to a professional standard, and the technical drawing skills needed to put your ideas onto paper.
9. MEMBERSHIP TO THE JEWELLERS ACADEMY
You'll get 1-year of free membership to our sister company, Jewellers Academy (RRP £365), which has 100s of video training courses on jewellery making and the business skills behind running your own jewellery business. You'll even get access to our 8-week online course Jewellery Business Bootcamp, and our private members' group!
10. FRIENDSHIPS AND COMMUNITY
Last but certainly not least, one of the most unique things about your time at LJS is the friends you'll make and the wonderful community you'll be able to be a part of. Our approach to jewellery making is friendly and inclusive, and we think that shines through in our staff and students. It's a wonderful thing to be a part of.
Our students rave about these courses, and often go on to achieve incredible things with the skills they learn!
If this sounds like something that you'd like to do for yourself, you can become one of our next round of hardcore intensive graduates by contacting Mireille, our office manager, at info@londonjewelleryschool.co.uk or calling 02031760546 to arrange a tour around the school and more of a chat about the course.
Have a wonderful day, and click here for more information on the diploma!
