Hooked on enamelling and want to learn more?
Take your enamelling skills to the next level and learn advanced techniques including Cloisonné, Plique-à-jour and Champlevé.
You will produce a range of sample pieces and try out lots of different techniques.
Take a look above to see some of the enamel jewellery created by students and tutors in this Class.
Techniques covered in this class include:
Preparing metal for enamelling
Creating Cloisonné Inlay Compartments by soldering silver wires or thin metal strips as per your design before finally filling the compartments with the enamel(s)
Creating a Champlevé design by carving or etching out channels in the metal before filing with vitreous enamel
Creating a Plique-à-jour design where the enamel is applied in cells (similar to Cloisonné), but with no backing in the final piece that allows light to shine through the transparent enamel to create an effect similar to stained glass
Firing the enamelled pieces in the kiln
Polishing and finishing the final pieces ready to incorporate into final pieces of jewellery.
Throughout the day, you will be able to make 2-3 lovely pieces of jewellery using the copper and silver provided. At the end of the day you will come away with lots of new ideas and inspiration for future designs.
If you choose this class we recommend that you already have experience of enamelling and soldering, either in our beginners enamelling class and our soldering class or similar training.
