This class will really bring on your stone setting skills and will add a new setting technique to your repertoire. Students will make a ring with a collet setting to take away with them and be able to create settings for different sized stones. This is a perfect follow on from our two day stone setting course.
PREREQUISITE: All students are required to have completed the the two day stone setting class and soldering masterclass before taking this class or equivalent classes elsewhere.
You need to be confident in the basic stone setting techniques of creating a rub over cabochon setting and ideally tube and gypsy settings too.
What you will learn on the class:
- Assessing a stone for collet setting
- Types of collets (shapes and styles)
- Measuring and building a collet setting from sheet silver
- Preparing the setting using burrs and setting tools
- Soldering the finished mount
- Setting the stone
Variations may include decorative collets such as crown setting.
