Work with mouldable colour in our perspex class.
Perspex is a hugely versatile material that can be used for small, subtle pieces of jewellery as well as large fashion pieces.
This class is suitable for all levels and gives students a chance to experiment and make their own jewellery from Perspex; whether it be a funky pendant or a chunky bracelet almost anything can be done.
Perspex is a brand of acrylic plastic that is often used as a substitute for glass. It comes in a rigid sheet and can be sawn or laser cut and bent using heat. It is affordable and available in a wide variety of colours and finishes there’s almost no limit to what you can make. Also, with a little thought and preparation Perspex jewellery can be made from home as it needs minimal equipment.
Techniques covered in this class include:
- Sawing and cutting Perspex
- Filing, sanding and polishing
- Drilling
- Bending Perspex using a heat gun
- Attaching stones and other items
- Making finished Perspex pieces and much more...
Students usually make 1-2 pieces of unique jewellery to take away.
Health and safety - we take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously. In accordance with recommendations, we have extractor fans in our studios and you will use masks when sanding and polishing your perspex work.
What you need to bring to this class:
For this class, you don't need to bring anything but yourself as everything is provided. However, it is a good idea to think about what you would like to make and bring any ideas you have; pictures, sketches or pieces you like. Don't worry if you don't have a project in mind as we have plenty of inspiration around our workshop too.
